Wishcasting Wednesday

Today Jamie asks

What do you wish to give yourself permission for?

This is an easy one! I wish to give myself permission to take the time to explore new creative mediums. I think this new art journal that I'm starting will help that. It will be a good place to try things without committing to a canvas or a whole finished piece which is often too daunting a task. Sometimes I see new techniques I want to try but don't know what to do with them after when they're just a nice background. So by using my art journal I can just add to it when I feel like it. And if I don't want to show any one some times that's okay too. No stress creating!

Art Journaling

Here is something that is very new to me. Does anyone already do Art Journalling. I've been hearing about it here and there for a while and have wanted to try it but didn't know where to start. Well I believe that if things keep popping up in your life it's time to pay attention.

As I was blog hopping during OWOH one of the bloggers(I'm afraid I don't remember which one!) mentioned Teesha Moore's videos about art journals. Well I couldn't wait to give it a try. So a few nights later while watching the Olympics with the Tin Man, I just had to get out my supplies and give it a try. It was so much fun I can't wait to do some more.

Even thought I'm not too sure about my first attempt, here it is. I wasn't really sure what kind of journal I wanted to write so I just started writing without thinking too much about it.

I find when I start paying attention to the signs, things just come to me. The day after doing this journal page I was in Indigo looking at the magazines and what should I find but the Art Journal Magazine. I didn't even know there was such a thing. I read it cover to cover last night and couldn't get enough. Even though it's full of other peoples art journal methods it's really about making it your own. I'm ready to get one started I just have to decide what kind of book I'm going to use.

If you already have an art journal tell me about it.

New technique

So my friend Sheila and I are trying to commit to a once a week creative play day. We hope to try out a new technique each week to expand our creative mind and spirit. Although we are both creative in many ways it helps to set aside and commit to a time for trying something completely different than what we usually create with.

This week I found an article in the Jan/Feb 2007 issue of Clothe, Paper, Scissors magazine by Shari Beaubien to try. It's a mixed media piece on canvas using tissue paper, gel medium, gesso and paint for texture and colour on the background. I had every intention of using a large heart for the focal point just as Shari did in the article but once I got to that point I decided I would use this canvas for my word of the year which is FOCUS. So I used random letters I had already to finish off my canvas. Now I have a daily reminder to focus.
It was a fun and easy technique that I will definitely use again. I especially liked the tissue paper for the background texture. I think I'd like to try it with some crackling texture paste next...

The one nice thing about having an anniversary in February is getting flowers. The Tin Man always brings me flowers for our anniversary. It's the most perfect gift because I always crave them this time of year. I'm getting the urge to get out and dig in the flower beds but of coarse they're still under a bed of snow. So it must be time to check out the seed catalogues and envision this years garden dreams.

Although ONE WORLD ONE HEART is over for this year, the excitement is still in the air. All of my winners have confirmed and their gifts have been sent out. I'm a winner too. I found out that I'm the third prize winner over at Creativspirit from Australia. It looks like a beautiful necklace. I can hardly wait to see it for real. I'll show you when I get it but for now you can check it out over at her blog.

I've been trying out a few new creative mediums this week. I'll have some pictures for you in the next few day.

Happy Valentine's Day

I was up early this morning so I made a card for the Tin Man since I was a little under the weather the last couple of days and hadn't made it yet. Feeling a little guilty that I didn't buy him any chocolate I made him some Buckwheat pancakes and bacon. After 25 years that's as good as it gets!!

Don't forget today is the last day to enter the OWOH giveaway. You just have to leave a comment on OWOH post by midnight tonight. I'll announce the winners tomorrow.

Wishcasting Wednesday

This week Jamie asks

What story do you wish to live or let go of?

I wish to let go of the old stories that keep playing in my head. The ones where I tell my self I can't do this or that. As a result of letting go of these stories I will be able to release the artist within completely. In this new story I will be true to myself. I will have positive and encouraging thoughts to keep me going. I will create without guilt or fear. I will not sabotage my own work and well being. I will be open to the journey and let what happens, happen and accept it for being part of the path on my way.
